Why Do People Self Sabotage And Why You Need To Know

Why Do People Self Sabotage? is a profound and important question.

Is it possible to overcome self-sabotaging habits?

If you have any desire to live a life free from financial worries, this fundamental question must be answered.

Similarly, why do we seem to be our own worst enemy and stand in our own way of success?

How we answer this question will have a tremendous impact on your life and the lives of your loved ones now and into the future.

It will also have an impact on how we build our online businesses so we can make money online.

What Is Self-Sabotage?

Why Do People Self Sabotage And Why You Need To Know

Sabotage is the direct and deliberate act of undermining or destroying something of value or importance.

The term self-sabotage is used when this destructive behavior is directed at yourself.

Similarly, in most cases, you are unaware that you’re doing it.

As negative habits consistently undermine your sincere efforts, you continue to experience failures in key areas of your life.

Also, as the negative behaviors persist they can manifest into a form of psychological self-harm.

What is the main way we create self-imposed limitations or self-sabotage?

Why Do People Self Sabotage and fail to experience successes in their lives?

Signs of Self-Sabotage

Why Do People Self Sabotage And Why You Need To Know

Self-sabotage can manifest in many different behaviors, unique to each person.

However, there are some common, recurring examples that can show a problem in this area.

Realistically, we’ve all experienced behaviors like these at some point in our lives.

I know for a fact that I have.

Below are some examples of self-sabotaging behavior:

  • when you do try to achieve a goal, you abruptly stop for no apparent reason
  • you regularly feel you are unworthy of success
  • consistently forgetting important deadlines
  • you are consistently late for work or school
  • never taking personal responsibility for your mistakes
  • always blaming others for your failures
  • repeatedly putting off important matters by procrastinating
  • you give in to negative thinking
  • regularly making promises that you do not keep
  • every day you engage in negative self-talk telling yourself how much of a failure you are
  • you have a habit of starting projects but never finishing them
  • a sense of worthlessness is something you regularly experience
  • you have a desire to accomplish great things, but never take meaningful action

However, some of us are more susceptible than others to self-sabotage, and openly admitting it can be difficult to do.

It’s extremely important that you do not ignore or underestimate the signs of self-sabotage.

Likewise, ignoring your behavior reinforces a misplaced sense of worthlessness.

It will also provide a justification for negative thoughts that really are not true.

Therefore, what is one primary thing we can do to correct self-sabotage?

Correct Self-Sabotage By Being Completely Honest With Who You Are

Why Do People Self Sabotage And Why You Need To Know

Many of us have become victims of our own self-deception by focusing only on what we can get, not on what are we becoming.

Also, throughout our lives, we’ve been taught to focus on acquiring things and not to focus on personal development.

The terrible mistake is that our society does not equate financial freedom with personal development.

The late motivational speaker Jim Rohn discussed in detail how this happens:

Many of us have become victims of our own self-deception by focusing only on what we can get, not on what are we becoming.

The unchangeable fact is that income rarely exceeds personal development, and unless an individual makes personal development a priority, the goal of financial freedom will never be attained, and that’s true in every case.”

In light of Mr.Jim Rohn’s words, we can ask the following questions:

Why do hundreds of thousands of would-be entrepreneurs fail in business annually?

Why can’t many businesses that make it past their first year or two can’t seem to get their business to the next level of success?

Similarly, why is it that the majority of people have become victims of their own self-deception, focusing only on what they can get, not on what they are becoming?

Why Do People Self Sabotage and The Real Reason Behind It

Why Do People Self Sabotage And Why You Need To Know

It’s one primary, underlying cause of self-sabotage:

Selfishness.

Utter, blatant selfishness.

The reason is that all of us, regardless if we want to admit it or not, are born with selfish tendencies.

Very few of us have learned how to identify and overcome selfishness.

Similarly, the world in which we live consistently promotes a “me first” attitude.

How often have you heard or said the following:

“Look out for yourself, because no one else will”.

“Get what you want out of life, screw everyone else.”

“I don’t care what anyone else thinks…I’m going to do what I want…”

Therefore, since we grow up with this mindset, we have learned to focus only on what we can get, not on what we are becoming as individuals

Remember, the subconscious mind can only act on the commands you give it, which is either by:

a) what comes out of our mouths

b) the dominant thoughts we carry

c) what we allow ourselves to watch and listen to

So if our words and thoughts are dominated by selfish tendencies, then our focus can only be on what we can get.

Likewise, this is the main reason why the majority of people who endeavor to become entrepreneurs fail.

What Are You Focusing On

Why Do People Self Sabotage And Why You Need To Know

Think about this question: Why is it that income rarely exceeds personal development?

The late Jim Rohn said it better than I ever could:

“Think of it this way:

Most of what you have today you have attracted by becoming the person you are today.

So here’s the great axiom of life:

TO HAVE MORE THAN YOU’VE GOT, BECOME MORE THAN YOU ARE.

This is where you should focus most of your attention.

Otherwise, you just might have to contend with the axiom of not changing, which is: UNLESS YOU CHANGE HOW YOU ARE, YOU’LL ALWAYS HAVE WHAT YOU’VE GOT.”

Therefore, unless a person makes personal development a priority, the goal of financial freedom will never be attained.

If you have a weak attitude, you’ll have a weak income.

If your life is defined by lack and limitation, your income will always be lacking and limited.

So how exactly do you prioritize developing into a better person?

We do this by surrounding ourselves with the best minds, brilliant experts, the greatest thinkers.

Therefore, the question is How do we do this?

Personal Development Is The Key

Why Do People Self Sabotage And Why You Need To Know

We do it by reading!.. Yes, READING…

Here is the reason why, the hardcore truth:

We are constantly surrounded by negativity, relentless distractions, and mentally darkened people.

We associate on a daily basis with people who have given up on life and their dreams.

Therefore, the reality of our lives is that these people are everywhere and we just can’t avoid them all.

The wonderful news is that by reading 20-30 pages every day we can aggressively protect and nourish our minds.

To combat the onslaught of negative thinking and fear, you must set a goal to read at least 20-30 pages a day.

If 20-30 pages a day is too much for you, then start out with 10 pages a day!

The point is, to overcome self-sabotage you MUST start transforming your mind and your thoughts.

However, that means no newspapers of any kind, no fiction, no romance novels, no daily diet of the world, and local news that cater to fear and loathing.

You MUST stay away from ANYTHING that cannot help you to reach your short-term and long-term goals.

You MUST read empowering books that truly lift you up. Books that strengthen your determination to succeed.

Books that will reprogram your thought processes from one that caters to selfishness to one that serves others and adds value to their lives.

Are You Really Determined To Stop Self-Sabotage Or Are You A Pretender?

It’s imperative to read publications written by experts in their fields; books that give you systems you can follow to truly transform your life.

Reading books is an excellent way to educate, uplift, transform, and motivate you to take charge of your life.

Not just reading anything but choosing material that taps into the Creative Energy.

So the way to truly transform your financial situation is to surround yourself with “the best minds, the greatest thinkers and brilliant experts.”

For example, even though I’ve never personally met Jim Rohn, I consider him one of my mentors.

Many people have the mistaken idea that in order for someone to mentor you, you have to personally be in their presence.

That is absolutely false.

One of the best ways we can be mentored is by reading the books of those individuals that encourage us to pursue our goals.

Mr. Rohn makes an outstanding point:

“Why do we point fingers instead of looking within? The ego strives to defend itself.

Therefore, when we blame outside forces we don’t have to face our own weaknesses and failings.”

Here is an example of self-deception:

People who live in lack and limitations are always complaining about the high cost of everything.

The reality is that the “cost” is not the problem.

The problem is that YOU CAN’T AFFORD IT…

It’s rarely the fault of “the cost” of goods and services.

If you keep shifting responsibility from yourself you’ll always be broke and disillusioned.

Stop Making Excuses And Take Action

Why Do People Self Sabotage And Why You Need To Know

When it comes to Why Do People Self-Sabotage, Mr. Rohn makes another outstanding point regarding self-deception:

“Excuses…is a close relative of blame. Guess how many excuses exist? Right, millions! And people create a million more in the course of their lives.

In fact, people go to tremendous lengths to avoid facing the truth — which is that they are responsible.

I guess they’d rather create a million excuses than create a million dollars. (You can’t have both.)”

Mr. Rohn continues:

“You see, what you become is far more important than what you get. The important question to ask on the job is not, “What am I getting?”

Instead, you should ask, “What am I becoming?” Getting and becoming are like Siamese twins: What you become directly influences what you get.

Mr. Rohn concludes by making a very simple but profound statement:

“…You can change anything you need to change: If you don’t like how it is for you now, change it.

If it isn’t enough, change it.

If it doesn’t suit you, change it.

If it doesn’t please you, change it.

Remember: YOU CAN CHANGE ALL THINGS FOR THE BETTER WHEN YOU CHANGE YOURSELF FOR THE BETTER.

After all, you aren’t just a plant or an animal, completely dependent on instinctive behavior.

You are a human being, a most remarkable creation.”

Why Do People Self Sabotage – Key Points In Conclusion

Self-sabotage is a negative behavior that hinders and eliminates your success despite your best efforts.

The origins of self-sabotage often lie in negative self-talk, negative emotions, and persistent low self-esteem.

Mounting failures in your life continually reinforce self-sabotaging behavior.

You can beat self-sabotage by constantly monitoring your behaviors, thoughts, beliefs, and feelings about yourself and others.

Consistently monitor your speech. What you say out of your mouth to yourself and others plays a tremendous part in self-sabotaging behavior.

Be aware of negative self-talk and consistently challenge them when they stand between you and your goals.

Literally, monitor EVERYTHING that comes out of your mouth!

Similarly, be completely honest with yourself at all times! A lack of honesty with yourself will fuel self-sabotaging behaviors.

Once you understand what is behind self-sabotage, you can develop positive, self-supporting behaviors to keep you on the right track.
